Welcome to the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Graduate Studies Program!

UBC’s Graduate Program in Pathology & Laboratory Medicine is an award-winning program, recognized by students and faculty as one of the best “student centered” research training opportunities at UBC.

    • All incoming students must demonstrate a strong commitment to medical research through prior research experience or quality references from university faculty members who can speak about the student’s potential as a researcher.
    • The majority of research projects study the mechanism of disease through a variety of approaches, from in vitro to animal and human studies.
    • Our supervisors all hold appointments in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and the majority are national and international leaders in their fields.
    • Our graduates are prepared to successfully enter their research careers, be it in academia or industry, or to pursue other careers where a strong biomedical knowledge is desired.
    • We recruit trainees with BSc, BMLSc and MD degrees in disciplines such as biology, biochemistry, physiology, genetics and medicine.
    • We do not train physicians for careers in Clinical Pathology.
Our website is intended for those trainees who are considering applying to our program and those who are already accepted.   We hope the information is useful but if you cannot find what you need please email our first point of contact at Graduate Admissions
