Programs (MSc, PhD)

MSc Program

The Masters program is a research based program with 12 credits of course work, a thesis and defence.

Learning outcomes:

Literature analysis; written and oral skills through seminars, conferences, publications; time and project management; forming and testing a hypothesis, research skills, data integration, prediction, interpretation; mastering techniques and technology.

Useful Information:

On average students finish the program within 2-3 years or switch to the PhD program after 1-2 years of successful course and research progress.

Students entering the MSc program are required to take PATH 535, PATH 502, plus 8 additional credits.

On average Master Student enrollment within the Department is 30 students with an additional 45 PhD students.

PhD Program

The PhD program is a research based program comprised of course work, a thesis and defence.

Learning Outcomes:

Literature analysis; written and oral skills through seminars, conferences, publications, and project management; technical expertise; manage, predict, interpret original and independent research; becoming an expert in your field of study.

Useful Information:

Students entering the PhD program holding an MSc are required to take the core courses only; PATH 635 and PATH 502.

Students entering the Direct entry PhD program without an MSc are required to take PATH 635, PATH 502, plus 8 additional credits.

Students finish their programs, on average, in between 5-6 years.

PhD student enrollment within the Department is approximately 45 students with an additional 30 Master students.
